Langkah lanjutan Website Gratis, Setting DNS dan Hosting

Kalau anda sudah mendaftar di www.co.cc dan www.000webhost.com, maka sudah saatnya melakukan pengaturan DNS agar website anda bisa ditampilkan. Intinya semua halaman webpage harus disimpan di rumah tertentu, dan itu adalah di 000webhost.com.

Untuk proses setting, kita butuh data server.

1. Login dahulu ke http://www.000webhost.com, masukkan username serta password Anda.

Pada isian account detail, “I want host my own Domain” isi dengan nama domain yang telah anda miliki misal : 'sibadu.co.cc'. Lalu isi Choose password : isi dengan password yang anda inginkan, Kemudian klik set up.

2. Langkah selanjutnya Anda klik ‘Go To CPanel’, yang merupakan pusat pengaturan serta informasi spesifikasi hosting alias rumah kita.

3. Kemudian, Pilih menu View Account Detail. Semua informasi mengenai server ada disini.

4. Disini Anda akan mendapatkan name server yang akan diberikan oleh server. Catat dan ingatlah name server Anda. Karena nanti kita akan menggunakan name server ini ke DNS Anda. Misalnya :

Setelah mendapatkan Name server 1 dan 2, maka proses selanjutanya adalah melakukan setting DNS kita dengan name server 1 dan 2 yang telah didapatkan tadi.

Setting DNS dengan name server 1 dan 2. Langkah-langkahnya adalah sebagai berikut :

1. Buka http://www.co.cc

2. Kemudian, masukkan username dan password Anda hingga Anda dapat masuk kedalam halaman Home [Manage Domain].

3. Klik DNS yang ingin Anda setting. Sampai masuk kedalam DNS setting.

4. Klik Manage Domain -> Manage DNS. Kemudian Masukkan name server 1 dan 2 yang telah disediakan tadi.

Yogyakarta is the easiest city in Indonesia to start a business in, way ahead of Jakarta, which ranked just seventh of 14 Indonesian cities in a new survey.

The study, released on Tuesday by the International Finance Corporation, also revealed that Manado and Makassar would hold their own globally as business-friendly destinations.

“This survey indicates that certain cities have been efficient in helping businesses grow,” said Adam Sack, Indonesia country manager for the IFC, which is part of the World Bank.

The survey measured how long it takes to obtain a construction permit or register a business in various Indonesian cities and compared regulations with 182 other economies worldwide.

Yogyakarta only requires eight procedures to get a building permit, putting the city fifth in the world in that category. Jakarta, on the other hand, is more cumbersome, requiring 14 procedures.

It takes 43 days to get a business permit in Yogyakarta, at a cost of $2,271 — or about 29 percent of the national per capita annual income. The equivalent permit in Jakarta takes 64 days on average but costs less.

In Makassar, the capital of South Sulawesi, it takes only 56 days for businesses to get a construction permit, ranking it ninth globally in that category. In Manado, it takes 12 days for a business to formally register its property, ranking it 24th globally.

In September, Indonesia was ranked 122nd out of 183 countries in an IFC survey on the ease of doing business. Singapore topped the list, Thailand was 12th and Malaysia 23rd.

They city survey was conducted jointly by the IFC and Regional Autonomy Watch, and endorsed by the State Ministry for Administrative Reform.

Sandiaga Uno, chairman of small- and medium-sized enterprises at the Indonesian chamber of commerce, said other factors should be considered in ranking cities. “Even though several cities do well in global rankings on the ease of starting a business and gaining permits, if there was a global list covering ease of acquiring land for businesses, Indonesia would rank very poorly,” he said.

Indonesian Ministry to Ban IT Business Links With Israeli Firms

The Ministry for Communications and Information Technology said on Tuesday it was planning to investigate telecommunications companies involved in business deals with Israel, a day after the minister said a company would be dropped from a tender because it had an Israeli shareholder.

“We will investigate the involvement of Israel-affiliated companies in the telecommunications industry, and we will sanction [local companies] if we find there are violations of regulations,” Gatot S Dewa Broto, a ministry spokesman, told the Jakarta Globe.

On Monday, Communications and Information Technology Minister Tifatul Sembiring said US-based company Amdocs would be excluded from bidding to supply a billing service to PT Telkom Selular Indonesia because it had an Israeli shareholder.

Tifatul, a member of the conservative Islamic Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), said excluding Amdocs was justified because Israel did not have diplomatic relations with Indonesia — something he claimed was required by a ministerial regulation on telecommunications.

Amdocs is headquartered in Chesterfield, Missouri and has branches around the world. It has an office in Tel Aviv, but the Jakarta Globe could not confirm whether it had Israeli shareholders.

Asked about Tifatul’s statement, Gatot said there was nothing in the telecommunications regulations that specifically prohibited a partnership with a business from a country that did not have formal relations with Indonesia. However, he said Tifatul was probably referring to a 1999 regulation on telecommunications that stated that the public interest must be protected.

“It is not directly stated in the regulation, but we interpret this to mean that the banning comes from an effort to protect the people’s interests,” Gatot said.

“It’s not because the minister is from the PKS,” he added.

Meanwhile, Maswidyantoro, an analyst from consumer organization Masyarakat Telematika Indonesia (Mastel), called Tifatul’s use of ministerial regulations “irrelevant” and unwise.

According to Maswidyantoro, Israeli technology was commonly used in the information-technology sector because the country was a major producer of high-tech components.

Currently, 90 percent of the telecommunication parts used in the country were imported, he said. Many of these could be from Israeli manufacturers or come from companies with Israeli shareholders, he said.

“How about products from Taiwan? Many of our telecommunications products are from Taiwan — another country that does not have diplomatic relations with Indonesia,” Maswidyantoro said.

Eddie Kurnia, a spokesman from PT Telkomunikasi Indonesia, the parent company of Telkom Selular, a provider of cellphone services, said the company was still investigating the issue.

However, Telkom would support the government regulations, he said.

As you and your partner grow comfortable with the kiss, you can try breathing through your mouth a little: sharing breaths as well can be romantic (but not everybody likes it).

1. Strike up a small conversation. This will help you learn little things that will come in handy in the future. All girls are different, so be aware of the signs. Listen to the tone of her voice: if she's shy, the tone of her voice might be a little higher and she might start to play with her hair (smoothing it down, twirling, flipping) or adjusting her clothes. Another sign she likes you is if she laughs at a normally boring or stupid joke. (Though, don't use bad jokes as a test, or you'll risk looking like a comedy loser.) She may not be able to look you straight in the eye and she might giggle a lot.

2. Watch for signs of flirting. If she's flirting, she may be difficult to read. Flirtatious girls may flirt with guys who they consider to be just friends, and it can be misconstrued as a crush. This is a very sweet gesture, especially if you want to show the girl that you like her. If there are other guys and she likes one of those guys, however, she might act disappointed when you offer yours to her first, in which case at least you'll know how she feels and can move on. Sometimes a girl will pretend to be really bad at something, and say that they can't do it. That is your cue to offer some assistance, and she will most likely be doing this on purpose just to see your reaction.

7. Smile at her. Do a natural smile - don't freak her out. If she smiles politely, or frowns and looks away, say goodbye to her. She is obviously freaked out by you. If she returns a soft or big smile and continues to look at you, then she is interested. If she smiles then darts over to the crowd of her friends and hides in the group then she may be nervous and curious if you know that she likes you.

There's no way to know for sure if a guy likes you, unless you ask him (and even then he could get shy and say no!); here are some tips to help you determine if he likes you.

Steps

Examine his body language. If he likes you, you may see that he rarely turns his back to you, often leans towards you, and also looks at you a lot. If he slouches his shoulders when near you, he's romantic and cares about what you have to say. If he points his shoulders and pelvis towards you while sitting, he is definitely feeling something for you.
Notice his eye contact. If he likes you, he may either look away quickly if he is shy, or he'll try to catch your eye and hold it or make faces. This can be uncomfortable if you don't like him. If you feel like you have held eye contact just a fraction of a second longer than you would with anyone else, or if he looks away quickly, then there is something there. When he's around you and he says/does something funny and everyone around laughs, his eyes will flicker towards you for a second to see if you laughed, too.
- His pupils may dilate if he likes you, but this is quite hard to pick up on, and you might come across as acting strangely by looking that closely into his eyes. If you're around him for a long time, it could be easier to pick up on gradually.
Listen to what he's saying. If he likes you, and he's nervous, he'll probably start talking about himself. Many times, guys feel the need to prove themselves- especially if you talk about another guy in his company.
Be aware of touching. Compliments If you do your hair or makeup differently one day, and the guy notices, that's a very good sign that he likes you. Most guys won't notice, and if they do, they won't say anything unless they're into you. Anything like, "You look nice today," "I like that shirt," or even "Did you do your hair differently today? No Evidence Thai Internet Problems Were Caused by Censorship

UPDATE (10:30 pm, Jakarta time): Users responding to this story are reporting no problems accessing Twitter and Facebook from various points inside Thailand. Although several users on ThaiVisa.com posted detailed technical reports of a disruption to the Thai internet that occurred earlier today, there is no evidence that the outage was deliberate or that the Thai government was involved.

Thai internet users were reporting on Monday that access to popular sites such as Facebook, Twitter, CNN, YouTube and Flickr had been blocked by the government.

Users who try to access such sites are being directed to the home page of the Thai Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, which is currently displaying birthday wishes for Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who turned 82 this month.

There has been no confirmation by the Thai government of a block so far.

Reports of Monday’s access blocks began in the morning on social networking site Twitter.

“Twitter and Facebook (are) banned on almost every single channel now,” user fishmyman posted on Twitter.

Others still seem to be able to access the Web sites, such as pkollitsch, who said: “They say Facebook, CNN and other websites are blocked in Thailand since today. I can’t confirm that - all is still working as always.”

It was not immediately clear how widespread Monday's access problems were, and the blockages were not necessarily the result of deliberate censorship. Configuration errors or congestion on the country's networks could also prevent access. All internet traffic to sites outside the country passes through equipment controlled by the Ministry, which makes it a potential failure point.

However, the Thai government has previously denied access to pages and sites that it deems offensive. All of YouTube was blocked in April 2007 after a user uploaded a video showing the King with images of feet above his head, considered very insulting in Thai culture. Access was later restored. In January of this year the government announced that it was blocking 2300 web sites on the grounds that they were insulting to the king.

The Open Net Initiative, which tracks internet censorship worldwide, describes the Thai government’s internet blocking regime as a “controversial policy because the legal basis for filtering and actual filtering practices is not transparent.”

Indonesian Security Chiefs Prepare for Riots

The country’s top security officials said on Monday that they were preparing for possible riots in Central Jakarta and that military troops would be on standby for a planned anticorruption rally at Monas this week.

The alert comes a day after President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono speculated that his political enemies would attempt to hijack the protest to attack him.

His security minister, the National Police chief and the head of the spy agency have huddled to discuss how to prevent agitators from hijacking Wednesday’s rally, organized by the Clean Indonesia Movement to commemorate International Anti-Corruption Day.

The Jakarta Police announced that 14,000 officers, nearly half its force, would be on duty to guard the rally, state news agency Antara reported.

The security chiefs said the central government was worried that the rally would be manipulated by certain groups and harm the public. But just like the president on Sunday, they named no suspects and did not elaborate.

“I really hope the organizer of the rally will raise awareness about such possible manipulation,” said Djoko Suyanto, coordinating minister for political, legal and security affairs. “Are there any indications that riots will happen? I think you can answer that by yourselves.”

Djoko said the government would not issue a special alert level for police and the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI). “I hope nothing will happen. The police will work as usual, but their level of alertness will be increased. TNI troops will be in position.”

Fadjroel Rachman of the Anti-Corruption Civil Society Coalition (Kompak), one of the rally’s organizers, appealed for calm.

“It would be better to stop saying to people that the Dec. 9 movement is for treason, being used [by political interest groups] or being funded by corruptors,” he said.

National Police Chief Gen. Bambang Hendarso Danuri said the police would provide an opportunity for rally participants to speak. But he said freedom of speech also had to respect the law.

“We will guard the rally to keep it on the right track,” said Bambang, whose agency is under fire for allegedly framing two anticorruption officials for extortion.

Sutanto, head of the State Intelligence Agency, said the public must bear in mind that groups had manipulated public movements in the past. “So be aware,” he said. “You journalists know who the manipulators are because most of them access the media organizations.”

It is widely believed that the groups being referred to are opposition parties in the House led by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P).

Army Chief Lt. Gen. George Toisutta said there were no special preparations for the rally, but the military was ready for trouble.

“We have a lot of experience with riots, which would make [the country take] a step backward rather than forward, ” he said.

He said he hoped the demonstrators wouldn’t be provoked. “The people now are smarter and no one wants any unrest.”

Speaking last week and on Sunday, Yudhoyono said his political opponents planned to use the rally to target him and his government over the Bank Century scandal.

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and House of Representatives have launched separate probes of the government’s controversial Rp 6.7 trillion ($710 million) bailout of the bank amid unsubstantiated allegations that some of funds were embezzled by the Democratic Party.

Some political analysts labeled the president’s remarks last week as “paranoid.”

Google Enters the OS Race With Chrome

It’s finally official: The rumored Google OS is coming to a computer near you. At a press conference at Google’s headquarters in Mountain View, California, last November, Google unveiled its venture into computer operating systems with the Chrome OS. This Linux-based system will be released around the end of 2010 and is initially intended for netbooks.

Similar to the way Google handles the Android operating system for mobile handheld devices, Chrome OS will have an open source version called Chromium OS.

While both versions are identical, Chrome OS is Google’s official version. Anyone else who wishes to tinker and modify the operating system can work on Chromium and release their own versions.

If the name sounds familiar, it’s because Chrome is also the name of Google’s browser, which runs on Windows and Mac. A Linux version is on the way.

Chromium is the open source version of the browser. It’s easy to see how there will be confusion between the OS and the browser, but as a matter of fact, it’s easier to distinguish, at least for now.

For the time being, most people would not run Chrome OS as their primary system because, first of all, it is simply not technically possible on most computers.

Chrome OS requires a solid state drive, which is made of electronic chips (as opposed to the potato or chocolate varieties) while the majority of computers house the traditional hard drives that use spinning disc platters.

Second of all, because it is not ready for public use, there is no simple way for non-tech types to install it. Google has only made the source code available for developers to tinker with.

However, a very early preview of the OS is available to download from a technology site called gdgt.com. It requires a software made by VMWare to run it within a host system.

If this sounds too technical, don’t worry. Even if you manage to install it, there is nothing spectacular currently about the OS as it’s an even older version than Google’s demo. The best way to experience Chrome OS right now is to watch the videos available on Google’s own YouTube.

When it is finally available, Chrome OS will come bundled with netbooks, but you won’t be able to buy it separately.

Chrome OS is nothing like the operating systems most people have used. It does not have a file manager like Mac OS X’s Finder or Windows’ Explorer.

It does not store files on your computer the way you expect them to — in fact, it won’t let you store them at all. You can’t even install applications.

What Chrome OS does have is a gateway to popularizing cloud computing. Basically, Google is trying to get everyone on the Internet and as a bonus for them, hopefully expand the number of users on their services.

When you log on to Chrome OS, you’re presented with what is essentially an enhanced version of the Chrome browser, one that can work and interact directly with the computer it is installed on.

Chrome OS is a fully independent operating system built using Linux with the Chrome browser as its front end. Your interaction with the computer will be facilitated fully by the browser. This seems to be what most people are doing anyway.

Those who buy netbooks tend to use only the browser and an office suite made up of a word processor, a spreadsheet and presentation software. Sometimes, people also use a dedicated e-mail program, but most don’t bother.

Because there are no applications to install, how would you work on Chrome OS? Just as with Apple’s iPhone, Chrome OS will rely on apps — applications that are available on the Web. You can already use these apps from your computer today.

Google, of course, has Google Apps, which cover the three most-used components of an office suite as mentioned above. Sure, it’s not a complete and comprehensive set of applications, but it does the job for many users.

With both a free and paid versions, Google Apps are mostly compatible with Microsoft’s Office. Unless it’s a complex document, there’s a very good chance that it won’t need the expansive features of a full-blown suite of applications.

Most e-mail access can certainly be facilitated via the browser. Even those on corporate accounts often have secure Web sites on which employees can access their e-mails and schedules.

As it is also based on an open technology, called WebKit, Chrome OS will be able to read pdf files directly within the browser, just like Apple’s Safari.

Of course, no one is saying you have to use Google’s apps or services from Chrome OS. Microsoft has its own Web-based office suite, and so does Adobe. There are plenty of alternative Web-based productivity suites that you can use as well.

With the Chrome OS, Google is not aiming for specialized computer users. You’re not expected to make movies or compose masterpiece works of musical or visual art. This is for the everyday light computing that people who use affordable netbooks rely on. When netbooks first arrived, they had only 4 gigabytes of space. These days, it’s not uncommon to find them holding 160 GB of storage, most of which would be left unused anyhow.

Speed, security and simplicity is the mantra that is bandied about. Because everything is online, there are few overheads to bog down your computer. The startup process takes no more than 10 seconds. If your machine is stolen or damaged, there is no risk of data loss because you’ll be able to access it from another computer using your account. You will, however, need to create a Google account if you haven’t already.

Google recently took to the streets of New York to conduct an informal and completely unscientific survey about browsers. What they found was that the majority of people don’t even know what a browser is.

They open their computer and they go to Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. They check their e-mails, they read online newspapers. People don’t seem to care too much about what browser they use as long as they can do what they need to on the Internet.

Google is relying on this ignorance to sway people away from having to use Microsoft’s products.

There is one caveat, however: it would be difficult to use them in locations where broadband Internet access is not ubiquitous. In fact, it seems that it would be impossible to use these Chrome OS netbooks without Internet access because the initial login process requires an authentication process for Google’s servers.

Since the netbooks that will run Chrome OS will not have Windows installed and will not require a hefty set of specifications, there is a good chance that these machines will be even more affordable.

With Apple controlling the top end of computing, Google is aiming their netbooks at the low end, mostly as companion devices.

The Thinker: Facebook’s Dark Side

I’m not so sure I like my friends anymore.

I used to like them — honest. We’d have lunch, talk on the phone or exchange e-mail messages, and they all seemed normal enough. But then came Facebook, and I was introduced to a sad fact: Many of my friends have dark sides that they had kept from me.

Today my friends trumpet the more unpleasant aspects of their personalities via Facebook status updates. No longer hidden or disavowed, they’re thrown in my face like infomercials on late-night TV — unavoidable and endless advertisements for the worst aspects of their personalities.

Take Fred. If you were to have lunch with him, you’d find him warm, down-to-earth and self-effacing. Read his status updates and you realize he’s an insufferable, food-obsessed bore. He’d pause on his way to save a drowning man to sip a cup of volcanic coffee — and then write about it. (Fred’s not his real name, of course. None of these names is real. It’s bad enough I dislike my friends. I don’t want them to dislike me too.)

Take Andy. You won’t find a smarter CEO anywhere, but in tough economic times, he’s a CEO without a company to run. So he plays Mafia Wars on Facebook. He’s doing well — level 731, whatever that means. And thanks to Facebook and his status updates, I know he’s playing about 18 hours a day.

And then there’s Arty. He’s smart, he’s funny, he’s competent. On Facebook, however, he’s a teenager, constantly threatening to drive drunk or blow stuff up with fireworks. He also suffers from self-induced stomach ailments. He posts pictures of a huge and dangerous meal, predicts the worst and then documents the fallout in a follow-up post.

Liz is positive the H1N1 vaccine will kill us all and that we should avoid it. Chris likes to post at least 20 times a day on every site he can find, so I get to read each of his thoughts twice, once on Facebook and once on Twitter. Ed can’t go to bed at night without letting us all know what he’s accomplished that day — which is usually the same thing he accomplished the day before and will accomplish the next day.

In real life, I don’t see these sides of people. Face to face, my friends edit themselves, showing me their best. They’re nice, smart people, and there’s a give-and-take to normal conversations. They don’t talk incessantly about their work. They don’t point fingers with Glenn Beck bluster or sound like crazy callers on talk radio. But face to Facebook, my friends are like a blind date gone horribly wrong, one in which you sit there listening while the person on the other side of the table blathers on.

And yet I’m hooked on Facebook. I sign on several times a day. Facebook is like hearing your neighbors bicker through a thin apartment wall or watching characters on reality TV self-destruct. The voyeuristic appeal is addicting. I don’t want to know the dumb side of my friends, just like I don’t really care about Jon and Kate Gosselin’s marital problems. But I can’t get any of it out of my life.

Sometimes, my friends aren’t stupid, they’re just boring, keeping all of us abreast of the minutiae of their day. “I’m tired,” they’ll write. That’s it. That’s the whole update. (Hmm, maybe more sleep and less Mafia Wars, I think, but I keep my hands off the keyboard.) And they egg each other on. “I have a headache,” someone will write. “Why don’t you take some Motrin?” suggests a commenter. Interior thoughts become exterior on a regular basis. “Today I’m glad to be alive,” someone will post, even though they rarely talk like that. Then others chime in: “Me, too.” Often, all is well in the land of Facebook. Mundane but well.

I’ve yet to post a status update myself, or comment on anyone else’s. Is there any reason to think I’d come off as any smarter? Any less self-absorbed? Any less boring? It’s not so much that I censor myself when I talk to my friends, but I generally make a conscious effort not to alienate them.

Still, I’m left with a dilemma. Who is my real friend? Is it the Liz I have lunch with, or the anti-vaccine lunatic on Facebook? Is it the guy who understands business better than anyone I know, or the case of arrested development who repelled the Yakuza in Mafia Wars? Is it the Fred I can grab a sandwich with, or the Fred who weeps if he’s at a party and the wine isn’t up to his standards?

And what do they think of me? The guy who lurks online, afraid to reveal the simplest fact about himself while judging others and making fun of their comments? I probably don’t seem like much of a prize either.

Yudhoyono and Obama Raise US-Indonesia Partnership to New Level

Indonesia and the United States vowed on Sunday at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum in Singapore to enhance collaboration between the two nations in a wide range of fields.

Speaking at a news conference with US President Barack Obama, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said both countries had renewed their commitment to expand relations into a comprehensive partnership. “I welcome also future cooperation between Indonesia and the United States in various fields such as trade and investment, education and technology, climate change, food and energy security, countering communicable diseases and also fighting terrorism and people-to-people contact.”

Obama said the partnership agreement with Indonesia would also include clean energy initiatives and expanding the Peace Corps’ presence in Indonesia. “These are all areas in which we intend to focus in the months and years to come,” he said.

The two heads of state were in Singapore for the APEC forum, at which leaders agreed to pursue a new economic model promoting “growth which is balanced, inclusive and sustainable, supported by innovation and a knowledge-based economy, to ensure a durable recovery that will create jobs and benefit our people.”

Obama, who spent several years in Indonesia as a child, had been scheduled to visit Indonesia during this tour of Asia, but the trip was postponed to next year to give time for both nations to prepare significant agreements.

One of Indonesia’s major trading partners, the United States has hailed Indonesia for its smooth transition to democracy and active role in fighting terrorism.

Yudhoyono, who said Obama was “a friend of Indonesia” and well-respected here, hailed the new US approach he has employed in dealing with international issues, “including his positive outreach to the Islamic world.”

Obama, for his part, hailed Indonesia’s progress in developing its democracy. “[Indonesia] has enormous influence and really is, I think, a potential model for the kind of development strategies, democracy strategies, as well as interfaith strategies, that are going to be so important moving forward,” he said.

Yudhoyono also met Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva early on Sunday morning and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen in the afternoon.

The state Antara news agency reported issues discussed related to recent high-profile border disputes between Thailand and Cambodia. But presidential spokesman Dino Patti Djalal denied the meetings aimed to find solutions. “The [Cambodia] meeting was just a common bilateral meeting. There was no cooperation agreed,” he said.

US Aims to Double Number of Indonesian Guest Students

US Ambassador to Indonesia Cameron Hume has announced his support for an initiative to double the number of Indonesians studying in the US within the next five years.

The "Take Control" initiative will increase Indonesian students' access to free advisory services from AMINEF EducationUSA, a State Department-supported network of educational advising centers around the world tasked with assisting international students.

"I endorse this initiative to encourage Indonesian students to study in the United States. They should take control of their future, and we can help to make it happen," Ambassador Hume said.

Almost 7,700 Indonesian students are currently studying in the US. To double that number, EducationUSA said it would send advisors out to mobile centers around the country.

Visitors to the booths will be able to talk to an adviser and get help on how to select a university, apply for a course of study, assess financial needs and apply for a visa.

Six Names Proposed as Next Indonesia Military Chief

The Indonesian Armed Forces have put forward six names to replace the current chief, Gen. Djoko Santoso, who is expected to retire sometime next year.

Air Vice Marshall Sagom Tamboen, spokesman for the military, also known as the TNI, said on Thursday that the Army, Navy and Air Force had each put forward two candidates.

Sagom said that each branch would had fielded two candidates — current Army chief Lt. Gen. George Toisutta and Gen. Agustadi Sasongko Purnomo; Navy chief Vice Admiral Agus Suhartono and chief Admiral Tedjo Edhy Purdijatno; and new Air Force Chief Air Marshall Imam Sufaat and Air Chief Marshall Subandrio.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono swore in the new heads of the Army, Navy and Air Force earlier this month.
Yudhoyono will pick the new TNI chief from the six after the candidates have passed fit and proper tests.

Jaleswari Pramowardhani, a military analyst from the Indonesian Institute of Science (LIPI), said that although the six fitted the bill, Agustadi and Tedjo were entering the official retirement age next year, with Subandrio and George following in 2011.

She said that in the past the post has been rotated among the three forces and she believed it was now the Navy’s turn at the top, adding that would allow Agus Suhartono to improve the Navy’s capability, both militarily and in law enforcement activities.

NU Backs Indonesia's Plan to Involve Civil Society in Antiterror

The country’s largest Islamic organization, Nahdlatul Ulama, said on Thursday it fully supported the government’s plan to launch an antiterror initiative aimed at involving civil society in combating terrorist ideology.

Speaking at his office in Central Jakarta, NU chairman Hasyim Muzadi said defeating terrorism was not possible using only a traditional security approach.

“All steps must be taken, including the curbing of dangerous ideologies that help spread the message of terrorism to hearts and minds, as well as the approach of law enforcers to punish terrorists,” Hasyim said.

“We fully support the government’s plan because this new initiative will accommodate the necessary steps that need to be taken to combat terrorism.”

The coordinating minister for political, legal and security affairs, Djoko Suyanto, said the government would encourage members of the general public to participate in and support two new antiterror organizations, namely the National Board on Antiterrorism and the National Security Council.

To help promote the role of all citizens in combating terrorism, the NU, which has about 40 million members, is organizing a workshop involving civil society organizations from around Southeast Asia to increase public awareness of the issue.

“Terrorism is still an international security threat,” Hasyim said. “Terrorists have strong and well-organized networks, and have many methods to recruit new members.”

“The world needs new approaches, which must involve civil society organizations, to eradicate ideologies that are focused on terror,” Hasyim said.

The chairman of the NU workshop, Abdul Wahid Maktub, said involving civil society organizations in antiterror programs was in accordance with a 2006 resolution of the UN General Assembly, which “recognizes that antiterrorism efforts must involve civil society groups, in the context of resisting the spread of terror ideology.”

“We must acknowledge that many groups in Indonesia that are vulnerable to such ideologies can be infiltrated and changed only by an organization like the NU, rather than the police,” Abdul said.

The workshop is set to be held at the Sultan Hotel in Jakarta on Wednesday and Thursday.

It is being organized in cooperation with the UN and the Center on Global Counterterrorism Cooperation, an independent research group. About 90 representatives from civil society organizations in Southeast Asia will participate, including groups from the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Burma and Cambodia.

SBY's Silence on Indonesia Antigraft Battle Dangerous, Says Wall Street Journal

The Wall Street Journal says President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's silence in the drama between the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and the National Police is dangerous.

On Friday, the influential US business daily ran an editorial titled “Indonesian Antigraft Showdown." In it, the Journal said the controversial case involving suspended KPK deputies Bibit Samad Rianto and Chandra M Hamzah would "say much about the country's future." It said Yudhoyono's failure to strongly support the KPK was puzzling, especially in the face of strong public reaction in the antigraft commission's favor.

"Rallies were held day after day in Jakarta," the Journal stated. "Students staged hunger strikes in front of the KPK headquarters. Local media lit up with editorials and Indonesia TV has been broadcasting court proceedings around the clock."

The Journal noted that Yudhoyono did not reprimand law enformcement officials caught on tape apparently plotting against KPK. "He gave a speech last Thursday promising to eradicate the 'legal mafia,' but did not say how he would do so," it added.

The Journal noted the importance of Yudhoyono's image as a corruption-fighter in his recent re-election. It argued that the President's silence was dangerous, especially since the House has already tried to weaken the KPK's powers.

The KPK, it concluded, "needs both public support and the president's to ensure its continued survival."

Founded in 1882, the Wall Street Journal is the top-selling daily paper in the US. It reports an average worldwide daily circulation of just over 2 million.

Classic Nude Sculpture: Art or Porn?

Forgive me, readers, for I have sinned.

Whenever I’ve gone by Titian’s great “Venus With a Mirror,” sitting topless in the Renaissance rooms at the National Gallery of Art, or Canova’s marble “Naiad,” lounging a floor below in the no-kini of a classical goddess, carnal thoughts have come to me.

If only I’d been keeping up with the latest scholarship, I’d have had a more up-to-date reaction: full-blown, panting lust.

After well over a century of prim coverups, literal and metaphorical, of the sexual content of the greatest nudes in art, experts have been waking up to the erotic, even pornographic, potential. “I think it’s essential we understand them as objects in the context of men wanting to look at naked women,” says Amelia Jones, a pioneer of feminist art history who teaches at the University of Manchester in England. Over the past decade or two, most of her colleagues have abandoned the genteel distinction between the chaste “nude,” and pictures of the pruriently “naked,” meant to get a rise out of viewers.

The new view: Flesh is flesh is flesh.

As usual, Marcel Duchamp had hammered all this out before others, as we can see in an important show now at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. It digs deep into the making of his “Etant Donnes,” the wildly explicit peep show Duchamp left to the museum when he died in 1968. Duchamp’s last work did for pornography what his urinal “Fountain” had done for men’s-room plumbing back in 1917: It made clear that there’s nothing so out of bounds in our culture that it doesn’t have artistic repercussions.

But before considering Duchamp and his final word on lusty aesthetics, we need to go back to beginnings and take a more licentious look at Titian and Canova and their times.

The men of the West, even at their most refined, have long had a Playboy culture.

During the Renaissance, seedbed of most later art, inns and taverns flaunted naughty pictures. We know this because fine-art nudes were attacked for looking like them. And they were in retail circulation: In the 1520s, some of the great cultural figures of Rome published a set of sonnets called “The Positions,” with anatomically correct illustrations. The pope was not amused. The engraver did jail time, the writer and the illustrator had to skip town, and almost all copies of the work were destroyed.

That’s the context in which a nude like Titian’s so-called “Venus With a Mirror” was being ogled.

There’s evidence that “ogled” gets the looking right. In 1544, a Roman cardinal asked a subordinate to visit Titian’s studio in Venice and report back on a painting he’d commissioned of the myth of the Greek princess Danae. A subject, wrote the subordinate, that Titian had made so sexy it would get the strictest puritan going. Compared to the new painting, the report went on, Titian’s earlier nude, the so-called “Venus of Urbino,” might as well have been a nun — though for centuries now that “Venus,” one of the Uffizi’s greatest treasures, has been considered the pinnacle of refined taste. It turns out Mark Twain may have been right about the Uffizi’s “Venus” when he ranted that “the attitude of one of her arms and hand” makes it “the obscenest picture the world possesses.”

As late as 1800, even a less “active” naked lady, depicted in Goya’s famous “Nude Maja,” seems originally to have been kept behind another picture of her, clothed.

The two pictures were among other nudes, including the great “Rokeby Venus” by Velazquez, described as “obscene paintings” in a document from 1814. The next year, the Inquisition subpoenaed Goya about them.

When Canova created his “Naiad,” at almost exactly that time, the sensualism of his nymph must have been at least as striking as any ideals she represented. Canova sent a copy of his “Naiad” to George IV of England — an infamous playboy and a collector of pornography — and asked for it to be installed on a rotating base. That would have allowed a patron to take in a foot-first view up her legs, across her naked haunch and right up to her come-on glance.

It’s not only female flesh that has been seen as getting viewers hot beneath the collar. Michelangelo’s “David” was fig-leafed when it first went on display, and one prelate described the artist’s “Last Judgment” in the Sistine Chapel, distinctly un-fig-leafed, as a bathhouse scene and tried to have it destroyed.

Our new habit of not censoring the most pungent art may be throwing cold water on it. One of the most infamous pictures of all time is the “Origin of the World,” a close-up on a naked woman’s crotch painted in 1866 by the great French realist Gustave Courbet. It was originally meant for a Turkish roue in Paris, and when he gave a peek to his most privileged visitors, they must have felt a thrill at seeing the work of a great artist married to (“mated with” might be more accurate) forbidden flesh. But ever since the picture passed into public hands, the “Origin” has felt almost tame. In a recent Courbet survey in New York, “it was just another landscape — with hair,” says David Rosand, a senior art historian at Columbia University.

Nude flesh has been made safe by art, and in the process lost its potency. Experts have set about restoring it.

The British scholar Charles Hope is famous for talking about Titian’s racier pictures as mere “pinups.” Several other art historians have raised objections — but only to Hope’s “mere.” They’ve insisted that the stunning erotic power of such masterpieces enables all the complex things they do. We don’t have to choose between seeing these works as erotic objects, even in a full-blown Web-porn mode, and seeing them as tremendously important, sophisticated art.

With Duchamp, we’re talking rumpled sheets and cigarettes.

The Philadelphia show goes into every detail of the making of “Etant Donnes,” which took place in absolute secrecy between 1946 and 1966. (“Etant Donnes” is French for “Given That,” which is short for the full title “Given That: 1. The Waterfall, 2. The Illuminating Gas.”)

The piece is far too extreme for us to illustrate.

“Etant Donnes” is a peep-show diorama in 3-D. To see it, you peer through two eyeholes pierced in a weathered barn door, mounted on the far wall of a dimly lit little gallery. What you get when you look through is a pleasant country landscape. And, in the foreground, the perfectly rendered torso and splayed legs of a naked blonde, fully “Brazilianed,” as we’d say today, thrown onto her back on a pile of branches, with one hand holding a lamp.

As many scholars have insisted, what we’re seeing, really, is a woman lighting the aftermath of her own rape, as hard-core as any image could be — so extreme that it’s almost more forensic than sexual. I wouldn’t describe this piece, as the show’s catalog does, as merely “a recumbent nude in a bucolic landscape setting” that captures the “erotic frisson” of Duchamp’s affair with his model and represents “an open and desiring body.” How many desiring women would choose to lie, naked and exposed, on a bed of sticks? Jones, the art historian and Duchamp expert from Manchester, believes “Etant Donnes” creates “a visceral reaction for women. . . . I don’t see how you can engage with that work without being uncomfortable.”

Duchamp may have been running a kind of test: If art could “cleanse” the erotic, could it whitewash evident pornography?

The answer — luckily for Duchamp and the survival of his work — seems to be yes. On its Web site, the Philadelphia museum says the piece offers “an unforgettable and untranslatable experience to those who peer through the two small holes” — true, but the most thoroughgoing euphemism I’ve come across.

The show itself, and its impressive catalog, builds a classic image of the artist as hardworking genius. What it doesn’t quite do is put a spotlight on the extreme imagery itself and what it means — maybe because, in an age where porn is only a mouse-click away, we’ve lost the ability to recognize its force.

Yet that imagery is crucial to Duchamp’s “woman with the open [legs],” as he called his nude, because it lets him be direct about how art can work.

As conceptual artist Les Levine once said, the piece has “a cultural power equal to Leonardo’s ‘Mona Lisa.’ You can’t stop looking at it. It puts questions in your mind.”

Questions such as: Do we dare sidle up to Duchamp’s peephole and confront our own invasive need to gape — at flesh, and at art?

THE MILITARY WILL NOT INFLUENCE PRESIDENT YUDHOYONO ON US PARLIAMENT RECOMMENDATION ON PAPUA

The Military would let and not try to influence President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in any political decision he made to react on a recommendation from two US parliament members delivered through an official letter dealing with Papua matter, Military Spokesman Air Vice Marshall Sagom Tamboen said.

“If they (the parliament members) sent the letter to the president, we shall wait for the answer from the president,” Tamboen said on Tuesday.

The parliament members, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific and the Global Environment, Eni Faleomavaega, along with the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Africa and Global Health, Donald Payne, sent a joint letter to Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono yesterday. They called the president on creating an internationally-mediated commission to establish a dialogue between the national government of Indonesia and the leaders of West Papua.

In the letter, the Congressmen noted that dozens of prominent leaders and organizations in West Papua, as well as key Indonesian leaders and intellectuals support such a dialogue, which would be analogous to one successfully held in Aceh province. The letter urges the Indonesian President "to seize the opportunity provided by these developments to establish a similar process for West Papua."

"We believe that such a process would build on important steps Indonesia has taken in recent years, such as [Indonesia's] accession to the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. In becoming a signatory to that agreement, Indonesia clearly expressed its commitment to establishing legal protections for indigenous citizens, including Papuans." the letter states.

"A national dialogue initiated by an internationally-mediated commission could work to improve enforcement of that law and better the daily lives of average Papuans by, for example, increasing the availability of electricity and fresh water, enhancing public health programs to prevent malaria and other treatable diseases, and upgrading the public education system to levels found in most of the rest of Indonesia."

However, being asked his comment on the suggestion, Sagom Tamboen said Indonesia is a sovereign nation which responsible to solve any of its home affairs with its own way. He said the suggestion to establish an internationally-mediated commission is irrelevant with the actual condition.

“It is okay for everyone to give suggestion on establishing a new committee. But such suggestion is not urgent enough to be implemented,” Tamboen said.

“By such suggestion, as if there is a very big problem in Papua, which is not really exists, which needed involvement of international community members.”

Tamboen added that if the suggestion were triggered by security reasons, particularly dealing with armed attacks against Freeport workers, Indonesian security agencies have committed to settle all the problems.

“Every country had its own internal security matters, which commonly settled by the country’s security agencies,” he said.

Separately, Rusdi Marpaung from Imparsial, an NGO focusing on human rights and military issues, on Tuesday said letter from the US parliament members is relevant due to the circumstances which majority of Indonesian people really want peace condition in Papua.

Besides, he said, the government hay yet successfully implements many articles of the law on special autonomy of Papua, which becoming legal umbrella for assuring welfare must be given for citizens in the province.

“Despite giving welfare to local Papuans, the government did establish new province in Papua, the West Irian province, which actually prone to be ridden by security agencies to control local citizens,” Marpaung said.

He added that concern of international community members dealing with Papua matters is reasonable because they are also part of the matters, dealing with the richness of the Papua natural resources.

“And they will refer to what had been done in Aceh Province, where the problem settled when there are join efforts from national and international community,” he said.

Marpaung also praised the military decision to let the president decide over the suggestion, saying the military must keep out itself from any political affairs.

NGO AND PRESS COUNCIL URGES GOVERNMENT TO BANISH SECRECY

The government and the House of Representative must assure that they will banish any form of secrecy regime in the country with first learning from recent publish of KPK’s wiretapped conversations which has revealed the KPK-National Police-Attorney General Office (AGO) scandal, activists said on Tuesday.

Speaking in a discussion about ‘KPK-Police-AGO case dealing with Regime of Secrecy’ held in Jakarta, Agus Sudibyo, from an NGO named the People Alliance Rejecting Secrecy Regime (AMMRK), said the National Police and the AGO had shown its unaccountability during their works on the KPK commissioners’ case. He said it is a fact of most Indonesian apparatus, especially the legal enforcers, still favor a secrecy regime which against democracy principles.

Corruption allegations, in form of bribery and extortion, have always been part of such system, Agus said.

“In the momentum of what has been revealed by the KPK wiretapping, policy makers must assure that the country reject secrecy regime,” he said. “We are not against the police or the AGO, or any other legal enforcers. We are against a secrecy regime which tends to fertilize corruption and collusion.”

He added that President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono must also show his commitment to support principle of openness dealing with handling of the KPK-Police-AGO scandal, saying the president must always announce any information and his decisions dealing with the case.

The president must assure that public rights over the information of the case is more important rather than an interest to keep information and documents related to the case as stat secret, he said.

"It becomes more urgent when Public know that the Team 8 has found that the Police investigation on KPK commissioners’ case is weak,” he said.

Member of the Press Council, Erwin Amanda, who also attended the discussion, said the KPK wiretapped conversations published in the Constitutional Court had shown the importance of public information, especially when the House of Representative fails to become Citizen’s hand on controlling legal enforcers.

“How can we guarantee we can serve public interest, if the Constitutional Court did not publish the wiretapped conversations?,” Erwin said. “We must aware that the public is fully aware of what is happening, the need of information openness and legal enforcement. No need to keep it as secrets.”

Erwin also urged the president to order law enforcers to open all documents and information related to the case as part of what the regime of information openness need.

In such situation, he said, anyone must support freedom of the press which one of its job is to become watchdog of the state authorities.

“It is why we reject the state secrecy bill which could criminalize and hamper freedom of the press,” he said.

He said the government and the House of Representative should rethink its decision to prioritize endorsement of the state secrecy bill.

The House of Representatives and the Ministry of Defense had earlier agreed to prioritize the deliberation of bills on state secrecy, military tribunals and military reserves during the 2009-2014 period.

The state secrecy bill would give the government the authority to limit public access to specific documents, information, activities and objects that have been officially declared state secrets by the president. Lawmakers from the last House began deliberating the bill but rising public opposition to the draft prompted President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to withdraw the legislation.

Tidak ada laporan yang diterima Nokia tentang adanya kecelakaan atau luka yang berhubungan dengan charger-charger tersebut.

Hanya jumlah terbatas dari model charger tertentu yang dibuat oleh satu penyedia pihak ketiga dalam tenggang waktu tertentu yang termasuk dalam program penukaran ini. Model charger yang di maksud adalah AC-3E dan AC-3U di produksi antara 15 Juni, 2009 dan 9 Agustus, 2009 dan AC-4U yang di produksi antara 13 April 2009 dan 25 Oktober 2009.

Cara mengenali Charger yang termasuk dalam penukaran yang di maksud:

Charger yang termasuk dalam penukaran yang di maksud dapat dikenali dalam 3 (tiga) langkah.

Pertama: Identifikasikan nomer model charger yang tertulis di bagian kanan atas charger. Jika model charger anda adalah AC-3E atau AC-3U atau AC-4U, silahkan teruskan ke langkah ke dua.

Kedua: Identifikasikan nama produser di bagian tengah kiri. Jika nama produser ”BYD”, silahkan teruskan ke langkah ke tiga.

Ketiga: Identifikasikan digit ke 7 sampai digit ke 9 pada 26 digit yang terdapat pada kode tanggal produksi di bagian bawah. Jika kode produksi pada charger model AC-3E atau AC-3U adalah antara “925” dan “932” maka charger anda termasuk dalam program pertukaran tanpa biaya. Jika kode produksi pada charger model AC-4U adalah antara “916” dan “943” maka charger anda termasuk dalam program pertukaran tanpa biaya. Kode lain selain yang terdaftar di atas tidak termasuk dalam program penukaran ini dan tidak perlu mengambil langkah lebih lanjut.

Bila charger anda tidak memenuhi 3 langkah diatas, maka charger anda tidak termasuk dalam penukaran ini dan tidak perlu mengambil langkah lebih lanjut.

6.7 Earthquake Shakes Bima in Indonesia, 2 Reportedly Killed

A 6.7 magnitude earthquake shook Bima on Sumbawa island, West Nusa Tenggara Province, on Monday at 3:41 a.m. local time, reportedly killing two people and injuring at least 40.

Metro TV reported that the quake damaged hundreds of houses and a number of roads and bridges. Rustam Pakkaya, the head of Ministry of Health’s Crisis Management Center, said two people were reportedly killed but the deaths had not yet been confirmed yet.

Six quake victims were hospitalized at Dompu General Hospital. Patients and staff at the hospital itself were gripped with panic when the quake occurred. Patients ran out of their rooms and refused to return to their wards. Some of them chose to sleep in the hospital corridors.

The Geophysics, Climatology and Meteorology Agency said the epicenter of the quake was 25 km northwest of Bima. There was no tsunami potential. The National Earthquake Analysis Center said the tremor was also felt in Makassar, South Sulawesi, and Denpasar, Bali.

Thousands Line Up Around Jakarta in Quest for Nexian’s ‘Smartphone Feeling’

Move over, BlackBerry. Last week, it was all about Nexian fever in Jakarta.

At least 4,000 people at the Grand Indonesia shopping mall had caught it by Friday. Some lined up for as long as seven hours, arriving well before the mall had opened, to get their hands on the made-in-China smartphone.

Rahma, a housewife, was among them. She admitted to picking up her daughter early from school so she could be one of the first buyers of the new NX-G522, billed as the BlackBerry for those on a tighter budget.

“I’m only after the ‘smartphone’ feeling you get when owning a phone that resembles a BlackBerry,” Rahma said.

The Nexian’s price tag surely made some customers feel pretty clever. The device offers some standard smartphone capabilities, like Internet access, including Facebook, and a 1 gigabyte memory card for the price of just less than Rp 600,000 ($63), about a third of the price of the cheapest BlackBerry model.

Martono Kusuma, president director of PT Metrotech Jaya Komunika, which distributes the Nexian phones, said demand is high for a cheaper but “just-as-reliable” BlackBerry-esque phone.

“I don’t want to mention numbers that I’m not certain of, but there are many more Nexian users in Indonesia compared to BlackBerry users,” Martono said. “Indonesians look for a cheaper version of everything and we’d like to accommodate that.”

The country’s second-largest telecom firm, PT Indosat, said it has 300,000 Nexian subscribers, compared to 200,000 BlackBerry subscribers. Martono said Nexian has an edge over the BlackBerry in areas other than price. “Our brand has its very own service center, unlike BlackBerry phones, for which operators have to provide service for the phones,” he said.

Teguh Prasetya, general manager of brand marketing for Indosat, said the smartphone phenomenon was now within reach of all Indonesians.

“With the [Nexian] Chinese-made smartphones, Indonesians from the lower- to middle-class economic sector can enjoy Internet and Facebook features, though not as advanced, because BlackBerry has its very own integrated messenger service,” he said.

Teguh said he welcomed the BlackBerry “copycats” because it showed that BlackBerry has become the standard by which other brands are measured against.

“Many people I know buy Nexian phones not for Internet service or the other features, but simply because they resemble the look of BlackBerry phones,” he said.

Jon, a maintenance worker, said his sleek new Nexian was certainly worth the six-hour wait. “It’s brand new, and there’s a certain feeling you get when one has something that not a lot of people have,” he said.

“The quality might not be as good and maybe it’ll only last a year, but it’s worth paying that much for a year’s access to Facebook and [Yahoo and Windows] messenger services,” he added.

There’s a devil’s advocate in every crowd, though, and Friday’s was no exception.

Maswidyantoro, who stood watching the long line at Grand Indonesia, said those lined up were courting disappointment.

“Many buy Nexian phones due to their physical likeness to BlackBerry phones,” he said.

“But once they realize that the features don’t live up to BlackBerry standards, this will result in a boomerang effect for Nexian. Its success will not be a long-term one, because customers will not buy it again.

“Especially for people who have used BlackBerrys and know the differences between the two phones. Most Nexian buyers have never previously used other smartphones before. This is the risk of being the imitator.”

Aravane Rezai Takes Pride in Bali Win

Nusa Dua, Bali. One French star enjoyed a successful end to the season, while another saw her year end in pain.

Aravane Rezai emerged victorious in the Commonwealth Bank Tournament of Champions final on Sunday after Marion Bartoli withdrew with a quad strain. Rezai, who won the first set 7-5, pocketed $200,000 and her second title of the season.

“It’s a big surprise and I’m very sorry for [Bartoli]. I hope it’s not a big injury,” Rezai, 22, said after the all-France final. “But in tennis there is a winner and a loser, and I’m happy to be the winner today.”

Rezai’s winner’s check nearly doubled her season earnings, having won $333,076 going into the tournament at the Bali International Convention Center. Her other victory came in Strasbourg, France.

“This victory means so much to me. This only proves that I can be a much better player on the tour,” she said.

Bartoli broke Rezai’s serve in the fifth game to go up 3-2 and had the first set in sight when she led 5-3. Rezai held serve for 5-4, though, and broke back in the next game to level the set.

Rezai led 6-5 and 15-40 when Bartoli suddenly stopped chasing a ball and limped off the court, asking for treatment. After being tended to by the tournament doctor for 15 minutes, she returned to the court and served up a double-fault, handing Rezai the set.

Soon after, Bartoli told the referee she could not continue and withdrew from the final. She said after the match she started to feel the pain in the middle of the first set and it kept getting worse.

“I started to feel some pain all over my quad. And if I put some weight on my leg, it got worse and in the end I couldn’t continue. I really tried as hard as possible,” said Bartoli, who earned $100,000 as runner-up. “The last thing you want to do is injure yourself in the last match of the season, but what can I do?”

Bartoli’s withdrawal because of injury was her seventh this season, the last coming in October in the Japan Women’s Open.

“I’ve always been having some small injuries, even when I was a junior. My body is strong in a way, but not that strong. Sometimes I’m breaking down because I try so hard on the court but my body can’t follow up,” she said.

Bartoli, who also lost in the 2006 final to Svetlana Kuznetsova, said she has no plans to return to the court for at least three weeks. She closed out her season with titles in Monterrey, Mexico, and Stanford, California, and runner-up finishes in Brisbane and Bali.

Indonesian Attorney General Delivers His Version of the KPK Bribery Story

Attorney General Hendarman Supandji told House of Representatives Commission III that fugitive businessman and corruption suspect Anggoro Widjojo gave Rp 3.75 billion ($375,000) to Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) officers when the KPK was raiding the office of PT Masaro Radiokom.

Hendarman delivered his version of events during a hearing with the House commission on Monday.

According to Hendarman, Anggoro, who was in Singapore, called his brother Anggodo Widjojo to find somebody to solve his problem with the KPK. Anggodo was friends with Ari Muladi, who had contacts in the KPK. Ari Muladi contacted Ade Raharja.

Ade asked for Rp 3.75 billion to close Anggoro’s case, and Ari then reported the request to Anggodo.

“Rp 1.5 billion was for Bibit, Rp 1 billion was for Jasin, Rp 1 billion was for Bambang (a KPK investigator) and Rp 250 million for the media,” Hendarman said.

After Ari distributed the money, the KPK issued restraining letter for Anggoro, Hendarman said.

“Anggodo was looking for someone who could contact Antasari Azhar (who was the KPK chairman). They found Edi Sumarsono, who knew Antasari. Antasari and Edi went to Singapore afterwards to meet Anggoro,” he said.

After the Singapore meeting, Anggodo, Antasari and Edi went to Malang to meet Ari. Ari told them the money had been distributed, including an additional Rp 1 billion for Chandra M Hamzah.

However, Ari recently denied distributing the money to KPK officials and said he gave the money to a person named Yulianto who later became the missing link in the case.

650 ribu purnawirawan TNI/Polri minta hak gajinya

Pada peringatan Hari Pahlawan ke-64 di tahun 2009, para purnawirawan TNI/Polri yang diakui jumlahnya sekitar 650 ribu orang meminta agar Menteri Pertahanan Purnomo Yusgiantoro dan Presiden Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono memenuhi pengembalian dana gaji yang terpotong semasa aktif sebagai aparat negara.

"Gajinya dipotong 10 persen, tetapi sebanyak 4,75 persen dari potongan itu, hingga saat ini belum dibayarkan kepada mereka," kata Ketua Lembaga Bantuan Hukum Purnawirawan TNI-Polri Anindyo Darmanto, di Gedung Forum Komunikasi Purnawirawan TNI-Polri, Jakarta Pusat, Senin (9/11).

Ia mengatakan dana itu selama ini dikelola oleh PT (Persero) Asabri. Tetapi, penuntutan hak ini dilakukan melalui Departemen Pertahanan karena perusahaan asuransi anggota TNI Polri tersebut berada di bawah naungan Dephan.

Pada 17 April 2009, pihaknya selaku pemegang kuasa dari 650 ribu purnawirawan tersebut sudah menyurati Menhan saat itu Juwono Sudarsono dengan harapan PT Asabri dapat membayarnya.

"Jawaban Menhan Juwono sama sekali tidak menjawab tuntutan para purnawirawan. Karena yang mereka harapkan agar dana milik mereka yang dipotong melalui gajinya ketika masih aktif sebagai prajurit TNI-Polri," katanya.

Mendapat tanggapan seperti itu, pihaknya lantas mengadukannya kepada Presiden SBY melalui Menteri Sekretaris Negara Sudi Silalahi pada 25 Oktober 2009. Tetapi, tuntutan tersebut bernasib sama dengan upayanya kepada Menhan.

"Menuntut duitnya sendiri yang dipotong dari gaji mereka semasa aktif sebagai tentara agar dikembalikan. Bukan, menuntut santunan. Karena, kalau yang namanya santunan atau gaji pensiunan semuanya dari APBN. Ini mereka menuntut gajinya sendiri," kata dia.

Sementara itu, Ketua FKP TNI-Polri Brigjen purnawirawan TNI AD Agus Gusmana mengatakan sangat ironis melihat kondisi purnawirawan yang tua dan renta dan kondisi kehidupannya memprihatinkan. Contohnya, kata dia, bagi prajurit yang tidak mengambil rumah dinas saja gajinya ikut terpotong.

Bahkan, menurut dia, dengan sudah adanya komitmen SBY untuk tidak mencampuri konflik Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi (KPK) dan Polri karena sudah berkomitmen untuk tidak melanggar UU, namun pada akhirnya tetap terbit Keppres guna membantu penyelesaian kasus itu.

Menurut dia, seharusnya Keppres juga bisa diterbitkan untuk mengembalikan hak-hak dari para purnawirawan, "Tuntutan kami sederhana agar sisa potongan itu dikembalikan," kata dia.

How to Create a Google Profile

On April 21, 2009 Google introduced a tool, called Google Profile, that allows you to take a little control over what comes up when people search your name. Google Profiles will place your profile at the bottom of the search results for your name if you are one of the top matches. Read on to learn how to take advantage of this new feature.

Steps

1. Load the new Google Profile page http://www.google.com/profiles and click "Create my profile".
2. Enter your Google user name and password if you are not already logged in.
3. Fill out your first and last name. Remember that what you put here will change your full name on all Google services such as Gmail. Use the name most likely to generate search results, such as the name on your resume.
4. Upload a photo to your profile by clicking "Change photo" next to the last name.
5. Define any alternative names in the "Other names" field.
6. Complete the mini bio. This section includes where you grew up, what you do for a living and other basic information.
7. Complete the section "A little personality" with as much detail as you wish to reveal.

8. Select the links you would like to display on your profile. These are links to things such as your blog, Facebook, MySpace or any other site where you are active. Google will automatically detect any sites that use your Google Account Credentials. Simply click "Add" to use these detected links.
9. Click Create profile to save this initial information.
10. Locate the blue notice at the top of your profile and click "Add more info to my profile".
11. Select the contact information tab at the top of the edit screen.
12. Complete all of the relevant contact information and save your changes.
13. Verify your name to receive a verified icon.
14. Search your name in Google. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and you should find the link to your Google profile. For example the "Nick James" example demonstrated in this article is visible at the bottom of this Google result.

Indonesia Belum Mampu Jaga 200 Kilometer Perbatasan dengan Malaysia

Indonesia menghadapi masalah kompleks di perbatasan dengan Malaysia mulai dari sosial ekonomi hingga infrastruktur yang belum memadai.

Menurut Menteri Pertahanan Purnomo Yusgiantoro, aparat Indonesia measih belum mampu menjaga lebih dari 200 kilometer perbatasan kedua negara, yang totalnya sepanjang lebih dari 1.000 kilometer.

Selain tanpa pos penjagaan, daerah kosong tersebut juga sangat sulit dijangkau mengingat kondisi infrastruktur jalan belum memadai.

Soal tunjangan khusus bagi prajurit di perbatasan dan pulau-pulau terluar akan segera diselesaikan dan ditetapkan melalui Peraturan Presiden.
